Bio

Jamie Read - Web Developer

Who am I?

My name is Jamie Read, I have been a Web Developer for over 3 years and have gathered a wealth experience in design and development.

I currently work for a software development company called Source Shaper, where I work closely with a group of skilled programmers. I act as an 'in house' designer to handle the front end design and development whether it be for software or websites.

In my spare time I offer my skills as a freelancer (under the name Read Design) taking on projects as small as a logo, leaflet or quick website re-design to as big as a fully functional website complete with a shopping cart and projects page.

I always enjoy taking a new projects and helping with any kind of problem, so if you think I can help feel free to contact me.

Where am I?

Technically, the internet… as I’m available here most of the time. My home town is Southampton, UK.

I don’t mind meeting new clients if they’re nearby to 'break the ice' and to introduce myself as a face behind the code.

If you’ve come this far why not check out some of my skills?

HTML 5

HTML is the building blocks to any web application, it creates the main layout and intractable elements on any page you may come across while browsing the web.

It would be impossible to go a day without touching HTML as a Web Developer, as a results of this I have become very skilled in HTML mark-up and can quickly put together the most complex of layouts.

CSS 3

Just like HTML, CSS is widely used in the development of a website. Plain HTML is pretty boring to look at and it can sometimes be difficult to use without the styling of elements, this is where CSS comes in.

HTML and CSS go hand in hand and because of this I am as equally skilled when coding in CSS as I am in HTML.

JQuery

JQuery is a JavaScript library that adds extra functionality to a web application.

Although I have not been using JQuery for long, I have quickly learned advanced techniques and frequently use JQuery to improve a website while in the development stage.

I have been using JQuery for over a year now and am constantly learning new features available within the library.

Photoshop

Photoshop has been around for a while and is one of the favoured applications to use when designing a website.

I originally began using Adobe Fireworks to design, but once I found Photoshop I was hooked. I have found it to be an extremely useful tool when creating and editing photos or custom made graphics.

Illustrator

Illustrator looks almost identical to Photoshop at first glance but it has some distinct differences. It allows you to create vector graphics that can be sized to any level while still maintaining all aspects of the graphic.

I mostly use Illustrator when designing logos because of this. The end result is a high quality logo that can be used digitally or for print.
